Frank Harshman Sr. purchased his first Caterpillar Bulldozer in 1950. He began building ponds and terraces on his own ranch at that time. During the dry years of the 50s, he began doing dirt work for neighbors in the area as well. These neighborhood jobs helped supplement the cattle and farming operations which were his principle sources of income.

In 1970 an employee encouraged Frank Sr. to purchase a rock crusher with the understanding the employee would operate the rock crusher, as this employee had prior experience. The plan did not work out and the rock equipment sat idle in the shed for 7 years.

In the mid-70s, Frank Sr.’s three sons Frank Jr., Jeff, and Warren were all working on the ranch and also doing dirt excavation work such as building ponds, terraces and water shed structures. Competition was tough during those years in the dirt business and there was hardly enough going on to support the family. In an attempt to sustain the family business and make it possible for all to stay and work together, in 1978 the brothers got the rock crusher out of the shed to try their hand at a new business. The company now operates 17 quarry locations in Southeast and South Central Kansas, supplying rock to a large part of Kansas. Also included on the team are 6 family members from the next generation.
